Dana Sachs at Temple Israel, April 21

Reception with Dana Sachs, author of All Else Failed: The Unlikely Volunteers at the Heart of the Migrant Aid Crisis, and Laura Goodman-Bryan
April 21, 2023 | directly following Shabbat (~7 PM) | Temple Israel

On Friday, April 21, Memphis-born journalist and author Dana Sachs will present the D’var Torah during Shabbat services. Her talk will focus on how the themes of the Exodus relate to the humanitarian situation she describes in her new book, All Else Failed: The Unlikely Volunteers at the Heart of the Migrant Aid Crisis.

The book tells the story of the recent migrant crisis in Greece and the ways in which individuals have stepped forward to help each other and their communities. There will be a reception following the service with light refreshments and snacks, during which Dana and Temple member and long-time Memphis volunteer Laura Goodman-Bryan will talk more about small-scale humanitarianism, whether that be in the displacement camps of Greece, the recent Ukrainian refugee communities in Poland, or right here in Memphis.

Purchase a copy of Dana's book through Burke's Book Store.
