Join us for the final night of the 10th Annual Temple Israel Movie Nights with a special showing of The Memphis 13. The Memphis 13 is a group of young children who integrated the schools of Memphis, Tennessee. When these students desegregated Memphis City Schools, there was no violence like the violence witnessed in other parts of the South. The story of the Memphis 13 has been made into a documentary by Professor Daniel Kiel, a professor at the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law and a member of Temple Israel. The documentary features interviews with the 13 students and their family members about their experiences and feelings during that time.

The Memphis 13 was created not only to share the stories of 13 incredibly brave young people but also to provide a starting point for conversations about inclusion, tolerance, and social change.

Please be seated by 7 PM for the showing. After, there will be a discussion with Daniel Kiel and members of the Memphis 13. Temple Israel Movie Nights are open to the community. There is no charge to attend. We look forward to seeing you! Thank you to the 2024 Temple Israel Movie Night Co-Chairs: Dorothy & Rob Goldwin, Susanne & Bruce Landau, and Jan & Marc Reisman. Special thanks to the Scheidt Family Fund for sponsoring Temple Israel Movie Nights.
